Maybe it’s time for you to pick up Visio 2010Professional or Visio Std, whichever suits you. Then it’s time that you
familiarize yourself with the different features that the platform offers.
These changes are visible across every edition of Visio 2010 and I will let you
take note of the most notable updates, in my opinion.
First, the drawing canvas can be maximized. You may
also notice that the GUI of the 2010 incarnation is very much aligned with that
of MS Office. In this app, you can also minimize the Ribbon. And you can use
the arrow button which you can find to the left of the small help button in
blue at the upper right corner of the screen. Personally, this gives me more
space for diagram making. Moreover, the Shapes window can also be minimized
with an arrow button of its own.
Second, you can use the Quick Shapes menu. You can
see this as soon as you over above the blue arrows within a 2D shape. This
makes the selection process much easier, if not you can select it on a stencil
that is active right before you hover on the blue arrow. This stencil shape
will be oriented towards the direction of your choice. Remember, if you wish to do a Quick Connect to
a shape that’s already there, then you hover and click and drag the blue arrow
towards the shape of your choice.
Third, take note that adding a flowchart shape
towards the swimlaine when using a cross functional flowchart allows the
Function Shape Data to be synchronized right away with the text that you input
into the swim line header.
You can also create a page that functions as a sub
process page to link on to the process that is current. All you have to do is
choose the process shape and then select Create New within the Sub process
group. You can find these all in the Process tab.
Hopefully, you have found each of these tips useful.
Remember, when you work it is important to make the most out of your projects.
Don’t just create a half-baked document using your Visio 2010 Professional.
Remember to go the extra mile and keep every stakeholder and colleague of yours
in mind. It always pays to serve and be at your very finest when creating
quality output for your company.
